Biden administration is delivering on its promise to the Indian-American community, says the Democratic National Committee

Democrats celebrate the nomination of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States and the historical diversity of the Biden-Harris administration

President Biden, Vice President Harris and the Democrats are keeping their promise to the Native American community because they are making a difference. The president helped put America back to work, provided funds to support Asian American families and small businesses, and got children safely back to school. It creates a government that resembles America.

Beginning with the nation’s first black and South Asian vice president, the Biden-Harris administration nominated 16 Asian American federal judicial nominees, representing 18% of all federal judicial nominees. President Biden has also placed Asian Americans in leadership positions in the White House and Cabinet. While Republicans stand in the way of the progress of the American people, Democrats continue to fight for a diverse America and to deliver results that matter.

DNC President Jaime Harrison, DNC AAPI Caucus Chair Bel Leong-Hong, and DNC Women’s Caucus Chair Lottie Shackleford released the following joint statement regarding the confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson:

“History has been made. The United States Senate voted bipartisanly to confirm Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. In doing so, they reaffirmed what millions across the countries have seen: Judge Jackson is a brilliant, gracious, experienced and impartial jurist who will bring much-needed insight to our highest court.

The court would benefit greatly from the insight of a woman of color, a public defender, a judge who served at the district and appellate levels and served as a clerk to the Supreme Court. It is amazing that Judge Jackson embodies all of these perspectives and more.

Judge Jackson has shown girls — especially girls of color — how much they can dream and how deeply they can impact our nation. His story is uniquely American. She represents the best of us and our common values. We are grateful to President Biden, Vice President Harris, and the senators who confirmed Justice Jackson for taking another important step in building a government that looks like America.

Today (April 10) proves once again that diverse women can achieve anything. They can be vice-presidents. They can shape the future of our nation. And, they can sit on the Supreme Court.
